Thyroid problems

Thyroid problems

Thyroid problems are common, but sometimes difficult to diagnose.

We see a significant number of patients with hyperactive thyroid, but an even larger number of those whose thyroid is functioning poorly.

There are numerous blood tests which can help clarify the diagnosis, and the treatment is designed to support patients and their symptoms.

At the BIORESONA centre, we use a combination of nutritional, homeopathic and herbal remedies, as well as BICOM bioresonance.

Hypothyroidism (poor thyroid function)

It is a very common occurrence. Although men can be affected, eight times as many women suffer from this condition.

This condition often starts without obvious signs and can go undiagnosed for many years. The thyroid gland is involved in regulating metabolism processes. This means that decreased thyroid function causes your body to slow down and can affect everything from energy gain to bowel movement. If left untreated, hypothyroidism can cause serious health complications.

Symptoms include:
  • sleepiness
  • proneness to feeling cold
  • weight gain
  • constipation
  • fatigued fingers or hands
  • confusion, depression, dementia
  • headaches
  • periods of absent-mindedness
Signs may include:
  • lowered heart rate and slow reflexes
  • hoarse voice
  • skin folds (due to the thyroid gland being swollen)
  • dry, scaly, thick, coarse hair
  • high cholesterol level
  • edema (swelling) of the hands, feet or eyelids

Causes

Different forms of hypothyroidism have different causes.

  • In chronic autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto), the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland and begins to destroy it.
  • Treatment of hyperthyroidism with radioactive iodine causes the thyroid to be unable to produce enough thyroid hormone.
  • Hypothyroidism due to iodine deficiency. This disease is very rare in developed countries because iodine is normally added to table salt.
